Thinking about building a 4wheeler but unsure which car to buy? Compare side by side a Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. the Nissan Pathfinder. Both have a small lift kit and upsized tires installed, and have comparable blue book values. That's where the similarities end. The jeep has more power from a larger engine that will give you 15mpg at best vs. 20 mpg in the pathfinder. Also remember the jeep does not have airbags, a considerable drawback for anyone who enjoys living. Both vehicles are capable of reaching 300,000 miles, though based on testimonial you will see the Jeeps need a lot more TLC to get there. That said, for an entry level practical 4wheeler, the pathfinder is clearly the best choice. For those looking to spend 5,000 or more for the ultimate 4wheeling machine, the jeep has more upgradability.
The 4th of July crowds finally abated, we push our pathfinder up the east side of Mt. Evans to get a fresh coat of dirt on the car. With the lift kit installed and the upsized 31x1050x15 tires, the many ruts and rocks in the road were easily traversed at 30mph. Upper Bear Creek road has a few nice camp spots along the way, as well as access to some mellow backpacking trails like the bear track lakes trail and the beaver meadow trail. Check out our cool pics and just visualize how stoked you will be in your pathfinder rolling up the mountainside to some nice pockets of awesome!
